Pontiacs win third straight game 7-4

The Pontiacs took another 2 pts in the standings last night, taking down the South Stormont Mustangs 7-4. The big win vs. the Frontier Division powerhouse was a big step for the young Pontiacs looking to make an early mark in the NPHL season.

The thrilling back and forth sixty minute action saw the Pontiacs go up 1-0 in the first period with a two-on-one shot from Christian Berini (assists to Wadden and Raby). The Mustangs came out strong with early pressure on the Pontiacs, but the home team found their speed and compete level going up 3-0 by the halfway point of the second period.

The Pontiacs scored a forth go ahead goal on the powerplay that was later called back from an icing play not whistled down previously during the action. The Mustangs took advantage of the reversed call, scoring their first of the game shortly after, making it 3-1 Pontiacs.

The end of the second period saw the Mustangs veterans pressing hard. Three late Stormont goals had the two sides heading into the break 4-3 for the home team, and shots 24-23 in favour of the visitors.

Led by Marc Beckstead, the Mustangs weren't done just yet. With multiple grade-A chances in the third period, the Pontiacs first star of the game, Danick Boisvert, had to be sharp.

Shawville's next two goals came from a back door tap in by Julian Arruda (assisted by Brennan & Raby), and Jean-Philippe Caron showing off his speed on a quick line change breakaway finding the back of the net (assisted by Dagenais & St Louis).

Defensemen newcomer Brendan St-Louis finished off the visiting team with an open net goal, and completing a personal 3pt performance helping take the 2pts for the home side.

Coach Findlay really liked what his team had to offer.

"This was a great test for our young team. South Stormont are one of the league's best, filled with veteran presence and a tone of high end talent. They play such a fast game, you have to be sharp, you have to play on your toes, and you need to be ready for the challenge. I thought our team did a great job of weathering the storm early in the game and again late playing 6on5. The momentum changes are inevitable throughout the 60 minute frame. We did a great job capitalizing on our chances, controlled the pace of play through the mid part of the game and buckled down in the end to hold onto the win. We proved to ourselves the ability to compete with the league's best".

The win makes it 3 straight for the Pontiacs who took home two stars of the game performances.

Goaltender Danick Boisvert was named First-Star, while rookie newcomer Julien Arruda was named Second-Star.

The Pontiacs hit the road for the next two weeks starting @Arnprior (in Deep RIver) on Saturday Oct 25 & North Dundas Nov 1.

Shawville returns home on Friday, November 7 (7:15pm warmup) vs. the South Grenville Rangers
