The Pontiacs Announce Ownership & Coaching Staff
The Shawville Pontiacs are proud to share a special message from our owner, Darcy Findlay.
First off, I'd like to thank the Senior Comets organization and fans for all the hard work and contributions everyone’s made over the years for senior hockey in our area. When the opportunity came about to purchase this franchise in the Northern Premier Hockey League, it was something I didn't want to pass up. I'm always looking for things I'm passionate about and hockey is obviously high on that list. The history of this franchise is very important to me, and the decision to relocate wasn't taken lightly. As a child I grew up watching the Pontiacs battle it out on Friday nights at the Shawville Arena, spent hours packing and unpacking the team bus, and most importantly got to see just how important and passionate our communities are for competitive hockey in our region. The Shawville Pontiacs are an opportunity to build on a vision, and an opportunity to revive a brand so many, including myself, identify with in our region. By delivering high-level entertainment and fostering community involvement that everyone can be proud of, we represent all surrounding communities and the entire Pontiac.
The puck may have dropped on a new chapter, but the heart of our hockey community remains the same.
Today, the Shawville Pontiacs proudly welcome every fan, family, and supporter of the Pontiac to a new era.
The logo has changed, but our foundation remains the same, with passion for the game, dedication to our players, and commitment to our Senior Hockey community.
This chapter isn't replacing history - its carrying forward the Pontiac name. We plan to unite the entire region and are excited to hit the ice.
We hope to see everyone in the rink soon!
The Pontiac's coaching staff will include Findlay, Peter Howes and Matt Warren.
Findlay will assume the role of Owner, Hockey Operations, GM & Head Coach.
Peter Howes (Assistant GM & Associate Coach) - has over 12 years experience coaching Junior "A" hockey. Peter's approach combines high-performance skill development with a focus on discipline, teamwork, and resilience. He's been able to blend high-level strategy with a relentless work ethic, pushing players to play at their very best.
Findlay said "I was able to have Peter on my coaching staff with the Nepean Raiders back in 2016, and he's someone you can't replace. The ability to teach the game, his reliability, and most importantly the ability to connect with people make him a great coach". Howes will be in charge of running the defensive corps.
Matt Warren (Assistant Coach) - is a former Pontiac Senior Comets player and joins the Pontiac coaching staff after suiting up for the past 7 seasons. An offensive talent and hockey mind, Warren played his junior career with the Hawkesbury Hawks and Pembroke Lumberkings before joining NCAA Division 1 Mercyhurst College.
Findlay says "Warren has a ton of leadership skills and a strong hockey mind. Matt will be in charge of the forward corps this winter."
"I'm very fortunate and excited to have these two on board coaching", says Findlay.
